HT and her friends busked by harbour until one day she heard Taniwha (water spirit) whispering and felt the legends guiding her steps. They responded with sounds and acts, using pieces of birch bark that has travelled across the ocean from Evenki tribe in China. This field production from a speaker and recorder in a kono (basket) captures debris of their dialogue along the timeless shorelines of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington Harbour, unfolding before sunset.

The text by Shannon Ningfei Xiao (HT) intertwines narratives from the mana whenua (native people of the land), Te Ātiawa.

The performing with bark creature originates from a collaboration with 玛妮 Mani Nigelai Kuderin of the Evenki tribe in China, which was included in the 'Healing Matrix' exhibition.

The project has been made possible through the support of Wellington City Council's Public Art Fund, indigenous and non-indigenous experts from Victoria University of Wellington, and Rongoā healer Paula Mac Ewan.
